~ God helps those who help themselves. Caution is the parent of safety. Nothing like being on the safe side. Better safe than sorry. Discretion is the better part of valour. It is good to have a cloak for the rain. Although the sun shine, leave not thy cloak at home. One (You) cannot be too careful. Do not put all your eggs in one basket (Contrast: ~ He that is too secure is not safe) ^ God takes care of those who take care of themselves.

"Boreiko is making it impossible for me to stay here, and Papa has been scolding me… But I don't care! I shall be here tomorrow just the same. As for you, you must remember that one cannot be too careful."

"That's all. Let's go." "What? And leave it here?" "Well where else?" "But you are not alone here…" "No one will take it." "Who knows - God takes care of those who take care of themselves, they say."

"You're looking awfully thin and old today, Nikolai Stepanich. What's the matter? Are you ill?"
"Yes, a little."

Why don't you? You can't go on like this. The Lord helps those who help themselves, my dear chap."

"And now, Ivan, let's you and me head into the forest, out of sin's way. It'll be light soon. I can't believe the partisans wiped out the entire regiment and all our men in Mikhailovka. How could they? That's impossible. Still and all, we'll have to check. God looks our for him who looks out for himself, you know."

"We must set up a second centre of leadership," Lyutikov said. He very much wanted to add something comforting, a half-joking remark like: "We shell never need it, of course, but better be safe than sorry" and so on; but then he felt that neither he nor Barakov needed anything of the sort.

"Being careful?" The red beard laughed. "That's right! God takes care of those who take care of themselves!"
